Two work in projects: hexagon blankie & maxi summer dress

A couple of days ago I started a new crochet blankie project. I was surfing on ravelry for a couple of hours, and found this pattern so beautiful. The examples shown in the pattern description are so gorgeous, I just had to make one myself ;)
Lucy explains the pattern and how to make a hexagon blankie here. Her description is so clear, and by looking at all the pictures she added this crochet project cannot go wrong.
I started with a couple of hexagons, in all the colours that I have. I use the Bravo yarn from Schachenmayer, and crochet with a 4 mm hook. You can see a small example of the blanket here.

Making the hexagons is not that difficult, and works quite fast. The only downside to this pattern and using all these different colours is that you will have a lot of loose threads in the end....

Another work in project is a summer dress I am working on, with this gorgeous fabric.

The dress will become a maxi dress, and needs to be ready for my upcoming trip to Valencia. Will show you the end result soon!

Blanket from South Africa

Yes, another blanket! But this one is made from South African yarn, which makes it really special to me as it reminds me of the vacation I spent there a couple of years ago. The yarn is Aran Pure Gold by Elle, and it is very, very soft. The blanket was finished some months ago, but still needed the finishing touch of removing all the loose threads.

The blanket measures approximately 1,50 m by 0,80 m, and is crocheted with a 5 mm crochet hook. The pattern is super easy: double crochet, chain, double crochet, etc and then in the next row the double crochet is made in the chains of the previous row.  There is no specific colour order, I  just added colours and rows on the go. I have three more balls of Ivory coloured yarn to make a border with, which will probably have the same style as the pattern for the blanket.

So actually this is still a little bit of work in progress blankie ;) I will show you the result when the border is finished.

Mega Blankie finished!

In 2010 I started with this mega blankie, then not imagining it would become this large. I finally finished it yesterday making the last 4 rows. It has now become 1.70 by 1.10 meters. I used different types of wool together, one being quite old called ´Zaneska´. I crocheted with a 5 mm crochet hook.

I love the pattern from 200 ripple stitch patterns by Jan Eaton. The pattern I used for this blanket is pattern 165 called ´Bright Shells`. It is quite easy, as long as you keep counting ;)

I am still in doubt whether or not to crochet a border in the same colours. The border should be quite simple, so the blanket doesn´t become too overwhelming.
