Gig dress

5/5/2015

One of my final projects from La Maison Victor edition 1 is the Gig dress.

Foto

I made it in a soft blue fabric. It is an easy going dress, perfect for summer. As it is quite wide I need a belt to create some kind of figure and waist in the dress.

Foto

In the instructions it states to use elastic to create the shoulder parts. Instead I wrinkled it and even even created some pleads when the shoulder parts were still too large.

What have you been working on?

Harlequin dress

When the first edition of La Maison Victor came out this was the first project I started on: the Harlequin dress
Foto
I usually like dresses that have a tight fit better than a loose fit. That's why I added an invisible zipper in the back, and darts in the front and back panel. The darts in the back are nearly invisible, but I decided to keep the darts in the front with pleads, to give an extra touch to the dress. Happy with the result!

Summer dress

Last week I created a new dress with this lovely stretch fabric

Foto

It is a dress I have made before in a different jersey fabric. As it has a good fit I wanted to make it again. And luckily, I was able to recover the pattern parts from my pile of patterns, sketches and magazines.

Foto

I put the pattern parts on the fabric and started cutting.

Foto

I can see the beginning of a dress here!

Foto
I created the front and back panel, and sewed them together.

Foto

So easy, I just have to attach the sleeves.

Foto

Tadaa! Finished!

I am so happy with this dress and the pattern. I want to make lots more of this one. It's an easy pattern, which can be completed in just a couple of hours. Also I really like the 'wrap' in the front. That makes the dress a lot more interesting.

I already started on another dress again (different pattern). Here's a sneak peek of what will be posted soon.

Have a great weekend!

Jean Paul Gaultier @Kunsthal in Rotterdam

This weekend I went to the Kunsthal (Hal of Art) in Rotterdam, to see the exposition on Jean Paul Gaultier. It is a real treat. The exposition is very extensive with lots of fashion items of JPG on display. And no spoilers here, but the way they are displayed on the mannequins is very innovative. A real recommendation if you are in town between now and May 12. Here's a sneak peak of what to expect.

Cardigan jacket

During pattern class we created a pattern for a jacket. I modified that pattern to have a cardigan jacket, in my own size. Today I created a cardigan jacket in light blue/ grey, to go with the work in project dress. The latter one will be finished soon. The lining is in bright purple to give a nice contrast. It fits perfectly and I am really happy with it. Looking forward to wearing it soon.

New dress

A friend of mine bought this lovely dress. I really like the top piece with the pleats. Recently we made a basic pattern for a dress during pattern drawing class. Now I want to see if I can recreate the dress below, to my own size and fabric.
Foto
The base pattern that I use to change into this dress looks likes this:
Foto
After creating about 4 new editions of the top I think I now have the full pattern that should result in the pleats of the original dress. Back to work!
Foto
I´ve sewn all the pieces together and I´m quite satisfied with the first results. Now I still need to create sleeves, a lining, and close it with a zipper.

Dresses

The last couple of weeks I did a lot of sewing. I created 4 dresses and 2 pants. Three dresses were created by using my own design after moulage on my mannequin. I want to share 2 of the dresses with you today (other 2 are not 100% finished :) The first one is a stretch dress in beige and black print.

The second dress is made in one of the most beautiful fabrics I ever worked with. It is a simple cotton, but the colours and the pattern make me love it. Luckily I still have enough fabric left to make a second dress :)

Also for this one I used my own design. The front neckline is higher than the back neckline, which you can see below.

Creating an Alexander McQueen dress

6/26/2011

Last Saturday was the last of my moulage classes at the naaicafe in Rotterdam :(  But the good thing was that it was one of the best classes, as we made an attempt of creating our own Alexander McQueen dress. Or at least, create a dress that was inspired by him ;) The following dress was our inspiration and basis for creating our own (isn´t it fabulous?):
Picture
So this class was all about sculpting, creating volume and ´building´ with fabric. We first started to put a basic dress over our mannequin (1) where we can pin the fabric on. Next, we added the lining at the front (2) and back (3) of the basis dress. The lining indicates where the volume should be added.
Picture
Then we added tulle next to the lining. I added two layers of tulle: one around the hip section, and one around the knees . The tulle was added to create the volume on the sides. The fabric of the dress is then supported by the underlying tulle.
Picture
Then, we started draping the fabric at the bodice. So not yet around the tulle parts, only the bodice at the top.
Picture
After that, we took a huge piece of fabric (there was some calculation behind it :) and we draped it around the first section of tulle. There are lots of ways how you can do this off course, just see what you like and where you want your fabric to go. This was the most fun part of the workshop!
Picture
Unfortunately we didn´t have enough time to drape around the second part of tulle.  So not a full Alexander McQueen yet ;)
Here are the other creations of Saturday´s afternoon moulage class.
Picture
I would just love to make and then wear a dress like this!

Moulage Dress

Last Saturday was one of my last moulage classes at the Naaicafe in Rotterdam. I created a dress that forms the basis for plaiting that would have to be added later. I didn´t get that far unfortunately but the basis for the dress turned out really nice. To continue on this concept  I will probably use my own mannequin, and start from scratch again ;)

As I knew I would be spending some time in the sun in Valencia I wanted to make a couple of summer dresses, that are easy to make and easy to wear. I can´t remember where I got the pattern from, but it´s really easy and finished in just a couple of hours.  The one is blue is actually made from fabric from MOOD in New York, which a bought 2 years ago during a holiday. Brings back memories!
