I don´t really like my first attempt, although I do like the idea of the knots in the middle. (Pictures are not of the best quality as they are taken with my phone)
Today I had one of my last moulage classes at Naaicafe Rotterdam of the year. We were encouraged to go wild with strips of fabric and a dummy. We had to create three dresses (or work in project dresses) during this afternoon. Next month we will continue with one of the three designs, and see if we can actually sew the pieces together. As it would be nice if you could actually wear your design ;). I don´t really like my first attempt, although I do like the idea of the knots in the middle. (Pictures are not of the best quality as they are taken with my phone) My second attempt was better, with braiding. I don´t really have an idea yet on how you can sew this design together so you can wear it. Therefore I will probably take this one with me to the next class, and try to figure out how this can be constructed. And then with the third and last design I was having a bit of fun with knotting again, and a semi-open back. This one seems more easy to make, in which I would use a basic skirt to attach the top to. As always, when I go to the Naaicafe, I see so many nice things that I have to buy stuff. Which makes that I almost have my own fabric shop at home now :). This time I didn´t buy fabric though, but these ubergorgeous buttons and ribbon. Can´t wait to make something I can use this on.

And it all started with a pattern... In a few weeks we will be travelling to Singapore and Malaysia, where it will be nice and sunny, with real summer weather of around 30°C. To be fully prepared for this holiday I picked 7 new projects that need to be finished before the trip starts. How nice to travel with a new summer wardrobe ;) Lots of work still to be done, but I am happy to tell that number 3 has already been completed this weekend. The pattern of the dress is from the March edition of Knipmode, the summer supplement. The fabric is a light cotton, brown/grey with white and pink flowers. I am really happy with the end result. The dress has quite a lot of details, with a number of pleats in the front and back. Then there is the belt that is wrapped around the waist, and it has two pockets on the sides. I am really proud of myself with all the fine topstitching on the bodice. Never thought I could sew this neat and even. Also the first collar I made on a dress, and it turned out perfect. Let the summer begin!!! I am ready for it :)
This weekend I started and (almost) finished a cardigan jacket and a dress. So here I can already share the results :) I´ll start with the cardigan jacket as that is completely finished. It only needs a wash to remove the crayon marks and lines. The original pattern came from the February issue of Burdastyle, and is actually a childrens model. You can see it here in white. I adapted it to fit my size and here you can see how it turned out. The next DIY project is the dress beneath the cardigan jacket in dark blue. This pattern is from Knipmode of March this year. Due to a different fabric used (I used a fabric that is near velvet) the dress looks different then in the magazine. I just have to finish the hem - and then I can take it out to show it the outside world ;) I have a couple more projects planned, as I want to take a new summer wardrobe with me when we travel to Singapore and Malaysia end of March. More to come soon.....
A couple of days ago I started a new crochet blankie project. I was surfing on ravelry for a couple of hours, and found this pattern so beautiful. The examples shown in the pattern description are so gorgeous, I just had to make one myself ;) Lucy explains the pattern and how to make a hexagon blankie here. Her description is so clear, and by looking at all the pictures she added this crochet project cannot go wrong. I started with a couple of hexagons, in all the colours that I have. I use the Bravo yarn from Schachenmayer, and crochet with a 4 mm hook. You can see a small example of the blanket here. Making the hexagons is not that difficult, and works quite fast. The only downside to this pattern and using all these different colours is that you will have a lot of loose threads in the end.... Another work in project is a summer dress I am working on, with this gorgeous fabric. The dress will become a maxi dress, and needs to be ready for my upcoming trip to Valencia. Will show you the end result soon!
