Gig dress

5/5/2015

One of my final projects from La Maison Victor edition 1 is the Gig dress.

Foto

I made it in a soft blue fabric. It is an easy going dress, perfect for summer. As it is quite wide I need a belt to create some kind of figure and waist in the dress.

Foto

In the instructions it states to use elastic to create the shoulder parts. Instead I wrinkled it and even even created some pleads when the shoulder parts were still too large.

What have you been working on?

Venue top

The first edition of La Maison Victor is still my favorite. By now I have made five items from this first magazine. See below my version of the Venue Top.

Foto

It is a silk fabric, which makes it a little harder to put together. Really happy with the end result though. It is quite wide but if I tuck it in my jeans it's perfect.

Foto

How did I put this together?

First I started cutting the pattern pieces.

Then, adding interfacing at the parts where the buttons and button holes will be placed. Usually, the instructions of La Maison Victor are pretty clear, but at this part I didn't understand the part of the invisible button row. I bought their instruction video and that worked out perfect.

Some pinning and ironing.

Which six to pick??

Attaching the sleeves, et voila, a blouse has been created.

Gent

This weekend we had an extra two days off! Yay lucky us.

So on Thursday and Friday we paid a visit to Gent, a fabulous Belgian city, with lots of history and sites to visit.

Foto
Foto

And Gent even has its own medieval castle, in the middle of the city centre!

Foto

Of course we did a little shopping too. Gent has a Phildar store! I was able to control myself and not buy loads of yarn. Instead I bought this crochet magazine with summer essentials.

Foto

I added some more to my To Do list ;)

Foto

I think it would be fabulous to crochet my own dress!

And a scarf is always handy, for a chilly summer evening.

If you happen to be visiting the Netherlands or Belgium, make sure to pay Gent a visit. Two or three days should do. We really enjoyed ourselves and are already planning another trip later this year.

Flowers

As there is hardly any sunshine in the Netherlands over the past couple of weeks, we need to create some sunshine ourselves. And what´s a better way to do this than by creating some crocheted flowers. Unfortunately I haven´t saved the pattern description to my favourites, so I can´t share the original source where I got his idea. So I googled, and this description shows the instructions on how to crochet such a flower. Enjoy!

Work in progress blankie @Valencia

A couple of weeks ago we went for a weekend holiday to Valencia. We had a nice house with a swimming pool, relaxing chairs and plenty of sun. So what a great opportunity to continue with my colourful crochet blankie, I started a couple of months ago. The blankie is growing steadily, and it will be finished when I run out of yarn.  The picture below show my work in progress, but also my favourite surroundings for a nice afternoon of crochet :)

Isn´t he just adorable?! Guarding the pool, but didn´t dare to go in for a swim ;) Cute!

Two finished dresses

As I knew I would be spending some time in the sun in Valencia I wanted to make a couple of summer dresses, that are easy to make and easy to wear. I can´t remember where I got the pattern from, but it´s really easy and finished in just a couple of hours.  The one is blue is actually made from fabric from MOOD in New York, which a bought 2 years ago during a holiday. Brings back memories!

Summer dress

And it all started with a pattern...
Picture
In a few weeks we will be travelling to Singapore and Malaysia, where it will be nice and sunny, with real summer weather of around 30°C. To be fully prepared for this holiday I picked 7 new projects that need to be finished before the trip starts. How nice to travel with a new summer wardrobe ;)  Lots of work still to be done, but I am happy to tell that number 3 has already been completed this weekend.
Picture
The pattern of the dress is from the March edition of Knipmode, the summer supplement. The fabric is a light cotton, brown/grey with white and pink flowers.
Picture
I am really happy with the end result. The dress has quite a lot of details, with a number of pleats in the front and back. Then there is the belt that is wrapped around the waist, and it has two pockets on the sides. I am really proud of myself with all the fine topstitching on the bodice. Never thought I could sew this neat and even. Also the first collar I made on a dress, and it turned out perfect.

Let the summer begin!!! I am ready for it :)

Two work in projects: hexagon blankie & maxi summer dress

A couple of days ago I started a new crochet blankie project. I was surfing on ravelry for a couple of hours, and found this pattern so beautiful. The examples shown in the pattern description are so gorgeous, I just had to make one myself ;)
Lucy explains the pattern and how to make a hexagon blankie here. Her description is so clear, and by looking at all the pictures she added this crochet project cannot go wrong.
I started with a couple of hexagons, in all the colours that I have. I use the Bravo yarn from Schachenmayer, and crochet with a 4 mm hook. You can see a small example of the blanket here.
Picture
Making the hexagons is not that difficult, and works quite fast. The only downside to this pattern and using all these different colours is that you will have a lot of loose threads in the end....

Another work in project is a summer dress I am working on, with this gorgeous fabric.
Picture
The dress will become a maxi dress, and needs to be ready for my upcoming trip to Valencia. Will show you the end result soon!
